Membership

 

1.   Who can joint

PAS membership is open to committed scientific researchers, educators and advocates who belong to the Asia-Pacific region as well as to non-Asia-Pacific persons engaged in scientific work in the region.

 

 

2.   Membership

Membership is awarded on the basis of a proven record in contribution to scientific research, education and advocacy. We are welcome more scientists and researchers joint PAS. 

 

The following abbreviation letter indicates the major field of research.

Ag: Agricultural Sciences; As: Astronomy

B: Biology;

Ch: Chemistry; Co: Computer;

Ea: Earth Sciences, Eco: Economic; Ed: Education; En: Environment.

Fi: Finance; Fo: Food Science.

G: Global Science

H: History, Humanics

I: Information Technology

J: Journalist

K: Kinetics

L: Literature and Language

Math: Mathematics; Mat: Materials Science; Med: Medical Science

N: Nutritionist, Nursing

O: Oceanology

P: Physics

Q: Quantum Mechanics

S: Sociology;

T: Technologist, Tectonics.

3.   How to joint a membership of Pacific Academy of Sciences?

 

2.1       Membership categories

 

According to the Statutes of the Pacific Academy of Sciences, the Academy's membership consists of the following categories:

 

·        Honorary Councillors of Academic Advisory Committee

They are invited by PAS from the senior fellows of the National Academy of Science, or distinguished Professors of Universities in those countries in Asia and Pacific Rim.

 

·        Honorary Councillors of Administrative Advisory Committee

They are invited by PAS from governors or CEO of Large Institutions in the world.

 

·        Honorary Academician of Academic Advisory Committee

They are invited from the fellows of the National Academy of Science, or distinguished Professors of the top Universities in Asia and Pacific Rim.

 

·        Academicians of PAS

They are selected form the Fellows of PAS.

 

·        Fellows

They are elected from members of PAS.

 

·        Members

They are elected from scientists who are working in Asia and Pacific Rim and have made outstanding contributions to their respective fields of science.

 

2.2       Procedure of Election:

 

·        Academicians of PAS:

The nomination of a candidate of for election must be made in writing on a Nomination Form of Academician signed by two Academicians of PAS. Completed nomination form of Academician are evaluated by Academic Advisory Committee, and then submitted to the PAS Council. The Council, after reviewing the comments and recommendations made by the Academic Advisory Committee, recommends a final list of candidates for election. The names of the candidates selected are then communicated to the Academicians of PAS for election by postal ballot. Candidates receiving a favourable vote by the majority of Academicians are elected. If the candidate of academician is a new member and he/she not receiving a favourable vote by the majority of academician is accepted as a fellow.

 

·        Fellows of PAS:

The nomination of a candidate of Fellow of PAS for election must be made in writing on a Nomination Form of Fellow signed by an academician, or two fellows of PAS. Completed nomination form of fellows of PAS are evaluated by Academic Committee of Fellows, and then submitted to the PAS Council. The Council, after reviewing the comments and recommendations made by the Academic Committee of Fellows, recommends a final list of candidates for election. The names of the candidates selected are then communicated to the Fellows of PAS for election by postal ballot. Candidates receiving a favourable vote by the majority of fellows are elected.

 

·        Members of PAS:

The nomination of a candidate of member of PAS must be made in writing on a Nomination Form of member signed by a fellow, or two members of PAS. Completed nomination form is evaluated by two Academicians, and then submitted to the PAS Council. The Council, after reviewing the comments and recommendations made by the Academicians, the candidate can be accepted as a member of PAS.

 

2.3       Membership fee

While there are no fees to join PAS, members are encouraged to give voluntary contributions for A$50 operational expenses and to purchase publications such as books, journals and newsletters.

 

 

2.4       Inquiry

 

The Nomination Forms of a Candidate of Academician, Fellow, and Member of PAS are available upon request and are sent to PAS members only. They are not sent to non-members.
